Exaile: The most underrated media player for Linux

After actually trying out Songbird, I have a lot more respect for it, and amaroK has always been an excellent audio player, but my favorite media-management program for Linux is still Exaile.
If you've never heard of Exaile, give it a try. It's a lightweight, Python-based media player for GNOME and XFCE. It's supposed to be the amaroK of GTK-based desktops, and it's designed to be lightweight and fast.
One of Exaile's biggest advantages is that it can be extended via plugins, Firefox-style. Just go to Edit > Plugins, check the plugins you want installed, and click "Install/Upgrade". These plugins include an iPod manager, an Avant plugin, and Shoutcast/Streamripper integration.
Other than that, it's pretty much like amaroK. It has the same vertical-tabs-along-the-side interface, and it supports music collections (both on the hard disk and on external devices and MP3 players). It also can work with multiple playlists at once, something amaroK can't do. Yet.
Again, if you use GNOME or XFCE, but like amaroK, check out Exaile. It's starting to catch on in lightweight distributions like Wolvix, and it's full of features.
From Xubuntu 7.10,

Does it fully support EQ now ?
Last time I checked, to have the EQ enable in Exaile , you have to install the newest and unstable glibstream beta or something like that.

Btw your blog is great.

Pas si sous-estimé que cela !

C'est un lecteur rapide au démarrage et simple d'utilisation, un vrai plaisir. Il manque peut-être une smart list automatique comme
Amarok, excellent programme lui aussi!

Not so underrated as that!

It opens very quickly at startup and it is a very easy program to use, a real pleasure. We might need an automatic "smartlist" as Amarok, excellent program too!

Back when I used Exaile the reason I liked it most was the speed with which it was developed :)

I believe I ditched it when it had this new way of handling removable media that required about three/four clicks to get started, which was hell along with its slowness (Python). Oh, and it then also didn't support iPod scrobbling anymore, I loved that feature.

Anyway, I often switch media players so I might just get back there if Rhythmbox does something I don't like ;-)

Out of the box, no. But a plugin for that can be installed using the plugin manager (and it's really easy).
